Maruja Live @ Low Four

Filmed and recorded on the 8th of December 2022 - One of two live recordings I captured at Low Four at the end of the year: there’s a great Stealing Sheep show to follow soon! As you might be aware I’ve been working with Maruja for the last 1 and a half years, so it was great to be able to capture their live set in a studio gig setting. A lot of what we’ve been doing with the latest studio recordings is to try and represent their live energy in the studio recordings, and the process of recording and mixing this session has contributed a lot to the decisions we have made moving forwards onto the next singles: one of which was to use the same live room!

Despite appearances the final recordings are surprisingly well isolated - particularly the vocal which was quite the surprise, although I think that in part can be attributed to the volume at which Harry sings. That being said I have been very impressed with how directional the “Presidential” SM57 is, I have used the 57 for live vocals often, when recording and performing, and the cover seems to make a surprising amount of difference. Well, that, or everyone else was simply singing more quietly than in this case, which could also be just as likely.
